Written Expressive Abilities

If oral-written expressive language deficits are suspected, the speech-language pathologist may wish to assess the written language component. Specific parameters of written ideas or content and organization in the writing will be analyzed. The word choice and descriptions will be observed. The sentence fluency will be assessed by analyzing the sound of the word and word patterns. Basic writing conventions and presentation will be evaluated.

For intervention, the skills addressed may include written sentence formulation, organization of ideas, summarizing, editing/writing grammar, proofreading, punctuation, and dictionary/thesaurus use.
